From Tecniq
- Clue to Users
- Here are a few pointers for using, editing and structuring this wiki's content.
It will (in due course) include links to other useful pages such as a style guide.

RSS Feeds
- point your RSS Aggregator (Tested on Liferea and Google Reader) to http://tecniq.info. The Aggregator should take care of the rest.
http://tecniq-qa/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&feed=rss
This feed lists changes to all pages in the Main 'namespace' - ie only regular content. If you need to obtain an RSS feed for just a single page then at the moment that is not possible. I suggest you visit your 'watchlist' page in Special pages often
File Uploads & In-line Images
If you have been granted the necessary permissions to upload files then you should see a link to 'Upload file' in you left toolbox navigation area, just above 'Special pages'. If you can't find it, you probably don't have the necessary permissions. If you need to upload a file, then you can either request the necessary rights, or ask one of the wiki administrators (bureaucrats) to upload it for you. Before uploading (or requesting an upload), please ensure that you have the right to upload the item (ie check copyright restrictions) and that the file in question has been virus checked and is clean.
In the description of the image, include the following information:
- name
- description
- copyright information
- source
eg
Bugatti Veyron, Image of a nice car!, Creative commons, source: http://carpictures.cc/cars/photo/noindex/car_picture.large/19285/bugatti_veyron_goodwood_breakfast
Uploads are limited to image files (.png, .jpg, .jpeg & .gif) and pdf files (.pdf)
Make sure you have permission to use the uploads
To use the files you have 2 choices for images, you can either provide a link to the image, or include the image itself in the page using the following wiki markup (or you can use the WYSIWYG editor):
-
-

more detail is available here
Thumbnails now working:
-

see here for an example
When you signed up, you will have received an email with your account details. Newer users will have to click on an email authentication link in order to be able to sign in for the first time. This is to ensure that the email address used on the site is in fact a real email address - in order to prevent spammers from hijacking this site for their own ends.
Tecniq will not use your email address for marketing. In fact the only time you will hear from a real person at Tecniq is when we need to tell you something about the service you are using (such as planned downtime). The only other times you will receive email from the site is when (and these are configurable options):
- you receive an email telling you that an article you are 'watching' has been updated.
- another user contacts you directly, through the wiki (they won't know your email address).
Categories
In wiki speak categories are like tags in web 2.0 speak.
However, in order to avoid cluttering up the site editors should not just create categories as and when they feel like it, rather there should be a standard set of categories for this wiki that we should collectively agree on (and continuously develop). That includes spellings, we don't want two separate tags for color and colour, do we?
Category pages should also have a brief summary explaining the category and what it should contain, so that the category link means something more than just a list of pages with the same category.
To use a category, insert a link to where:
-
[[Category:starts the category definition - <category name> is the name of the category
- and
]]ends the category definition.
Multiple categories on one page are permitted.
The result of the category wiki markup will be a small box at the foot of the page, listing the categories to which this page belongs. Each of the categories listed will be a link to the category page, which will list all of the pages with the same category definition.
If you wish to create a link to a category, then insert a colon ':' between the inner opening square bracket and the word Category, like this::Category:Help
There is a category of categories page here which lists all the categories defined in this wiki. If in doubt contact one of the Moderators.
Namespaces
Namespaces are a concept used in wiki (and programming) technology, utilised as a means of keeping sets of data distinct from other (possibly identically named) sets of data.
- The main namespace is used to host the content for which the wiki was designed.
- The discussion namespace is used to hold discussion content about a page (with the same name).
- The help namespace is used for help pages - eg Help:Contents.
- The user namespace is used to hold user pages. Each user page starts with the users account name - eg User:Dswift.
There are a number of predefined namespaces in this wiki 18(?), and a maximum possible number (255?) that can exist. New namespaces can be created by a bureaucrat(?) or systems administrator in order to satisfy the design needs of the wiki - ie they are created rarely when new features or working areas are needed.
- A page in any namespace can be edited much like a page in any other namespace - simplifying the interfacee (all pages use the same editor).
- Certain namespaces are special, eg Special and cannot be edited.
- Every Main page has a corresponding Discussion page - in the event that a main page is locked (protected) then the discussion page should be used for discussing new content.
- Currently only changes to pages in the main namespace will be shown in the RSS feed of the site.

There is an extension included in the wiki for the inclusion of citations. Here is a page containing more information
